by Lisa Van Riper

Mason jar herb gardens allow you to easily grow fresh herbs indoor year round. With a few simple steps you can add fresh herbs and spices to your favorite recipes right from your kitchen windowsill.

What You Need To Get Started

  • Mason Jar
  • Small River Rocks
  • Soil
  • Seeds
  • Water

Create Your Mason Jar Herb Garden

  1. Add about 1 inch of drainage rocks to the bottom of your Mason jar.
  2. Fill your Mason jar with soil, leaving about 1-2 inches of open at the the top of the jar.
  3. Add your seeds.
  4. Add a little more soil to cover your seeds.
  5. Add water.
Tip: When you're watering your seeds the first few times, it's best to use a sprayer to moisten the soil. If you add a lot of water at one time you risk having your seeds fall deep into the soil which would prevent them from growing.
  6. Put in sunlight and water according to your seed instructions.
